Art Residence in Japan

During the end of winter and the beginning of the Japanese spring, I will undertake an artistic residency with the aim of creating sculptures whose narratives, in addition to the mythical and fantastical content I regularly use in my sculptures, will seek to explore, capture, and interpret cultural codes, symbolism, religion, and the imaginations of the native people of Japan, the Ainu. My intention is to work alongside local artists and the community in Sapporo to create a sculpture installation and elements that foster a syncretism between Native American cultures and Ainu culture. As a visual anthropologist, my work consists of tracing the sources that shape an image, and my intention is to create conscious art with real elements from the Ainu in a respectful manner, always with the goal of producing work that is worthy of their culture.

Previous Art Exhibitions and Collaborations

Overview of Monterrey Ceramicists

In spring 2023, I was honored to be invited by Casa de la Cultura in San Pedro for an exhibition featuring top ceramic artists from Monterrey and its metropolitan area. It was a special moment for me, showcasing my work alongside my mentors Mauricio Cortés, Gerardo Azcunaga, and Germán Garza, as well as talented younger artists. Being selected as one of the city's leading ceramicists was a humbling experience, and I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity.

“Spectra” Art Show

During the 2022-2023 holiday season, I had the opportunity to exhibit at the Casa de la Cultura in Santiago, Nuevo León, a town recognized as a "Pueblo Mágico." The exhibition featured a selection of my ceramic sculptures from various periods and collections, alongside paintings I created in San Cristóbal de las Casas. I was also fortunate to collaborate with my dear friend and talented artist, illustrator Delia Leal Casas, making this exhibition

Curator of Marco Anaya Exhibit “Aurea”

In the autumn of 2023, I had the honor and privilege of curating the exhibit Aurea by my dear and longtime friend Marco Anaya, a distinguished visual artist and sculptor. The exhibition was hosted at the Architecture Faculty in the historic colonial neighborhood of Monterrey, Mexico. This experience offered a unique opportunity to explore and reflect on the intricate, deconstructive layers of Marco Anaya’s cosmogony through his works—an intellectually rewarding and profoundly fulfilling experience.

“Eros” Collective Art Exhibit

At the beginning of 2022, I participated with an installation in the Eros exhibition at the Casa de la Cultura in San Pedro Garza García. My installation, titled “Retablo de las Confesiones de Alcoba”, features illustrations and artifacts related to the bedroom and activities shared alone or as a couple, such as sex, nudity, rest, secrets, play, true identity, freedom, and refuge. It was undoubtedly an exciting exhibition where, on rare occasions, I had the opportunity to present something abstract.

Collaboration to Exhibit “Art Can Save Lives” by the Government of Laredo,Texas

During the pandemic in 2020, the government of the State of Texas in the city of Laredo, together with the Reyes Meza Museum, worked collaboratively to organize both a virtual and physical exhibition aimed at raising awareness about the coronavirus, health measures, and expressing art through hospital elements. The exhibition was organized during the most critical moment of the pandemic, and it was a true honor to have contributed alongside the governments of Texas and Tamaulipas in this effort to save lives through expression and awareness.

“Gargomapping” Art Show

During the first months of 2020, before the pandemic began, I was invited by the Universidad Latina de México in Celaya, Guanajuato, to exhibit in their Magna Library. There, I presented artwork I created during my stay in the city of Guadalajara, where I focused on using recyclable and ethereal materials to map my life through forms, expressions, and textures. It was a highly existential exhibition, one where I had a lot of fun, but little did I know that this was going to be my farewell to a reality that would change forever with the onset of the pandemic.

“East Austin Studio Tour” 2019

I was honored when art promoter Coka Treviño invited me to present my work at the Austin Studio Tour. This annual, free, citywide event is dedicated to celebrating the vibrant art scene of Austin, Texas. Organized by Big Medium, the tour unifies the former East and West Austin Studio Tours, offering the public a unique opportunity to connect with local artists, visit their creative spaces, and experience a diverse array of artistic expressions.

“Metereomito” Reyes Meza Museum

In the autumn of 2019, I had the incredible honor of being invited by Rosa del Carmen Contreras, the director of the Reyes Meza Museum, to exhibit in this beautiful space. This exhibition in northern Mexico was particularly meaningful, not only because of the warm hospitality, the spectacular venue, and the thoughtful attention I received, but also because the community embraced the exhibition with open arms. I was also asked to conduct a workshop related to the exhibition, and to enhance the experience, I invited my fellow architect and artist, Delia Leal Casas, as a guest artist to present some of her pieces as well. I will always be deeply grateful for this experience, which undoubtedly inspired and motivated me greatly in my artistic journey.

“Metereomito” Art Show

In the winter of 2019, I had the privilege of presenting my exhibition Meteóromito at the gallery of the Alianza Francesa de Monterrey in San Pedro Garza García. This exhibit included works of muralism, sculpture, and installation, featuring a series of pieces created in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, and Tulum, Quintana Roo. The exhibition was the result of dedicated work in collaboration with artist and architect Delia Leal Casas and architect Rubén Segovia from LS Lab. We were fortunate to have the invaluable support of Artisan Tiles, the renowned luxury tile company led by Javier García and Samara Quintanilla in Los Angeles, California, along with the backing of the French government and other organizations.

This exhibition has become one of the most significant of my career, not only because of the technical and artistic challenges involved in working outdoors in Tulum but also due to the shared moments of camaraderie and learning.

“Deep Chip” Art Show

In the fall of 2019, I had the opportunity to exhibit at the Jewish Center in Mexico City, specifically at the Pedro Gerson Gallery. This exhibition held great significance for me, as being of Sephardic Jewish descent, it allowed me to connect closely with the Jewish community of Mexico City. It was both a challenging and deeply meaningful experience, and an unforgettable moment in my artistic journey in Mexico City.

Concrete Galley Collective

In the autumn of 2029, I had the opportunity to participate in a group exhibition organized by the now-former Concrete Gallery in the Art District of San Antonio, Texas. This experience was particularly engaging, as I shared space with American artists from the southern United States and Europe. The collaboration and exchange of ideas in this setting inspired me to become more actively involved in the American art scene.

“Never & Never” Art Show

In the fall of 2018, I had the opportunity to exhibit my artwork and installations at the Arte AC School of Design – Tec de Monterrey. This exhibition featured watercolors, paintings, murals, sculptures, and installations, all curated by museographer and architect Irma Hernández. This has easily been my favorite exhibition, as I was able to showcase many of my works freely. The opening event created an incredible sense of community, allowing me to share my compositions with students, teachers, friends, artists, colleagues, and the communities of Monterrey and San Pedro.

I am immensely grateful to Titina Cantú Sada for this opportunity, as well as to the entire community of artists at Arte AC and Tec de Monterrey for accompanying me on the opening day and throughout the exhibition. It still brings me great joy to remember this experience.

“Degradado” Art Collective Show

Thanks to the invitation from art promoter Coka Treviño with her agency, The Projecto from Austin, Texas, and promoter Rigoberto Luna along with textile artist Jenlee Esparza from The Presa House Gallery in San Antonio, Texas, I had the opportunity to share the stage with renowned Monterrey artists like Patricia Carrington, Adrián Cantú, and Ernesto Walker, as well as Mexican-American artists from the Texas Latinx scene. This exhibition offered a chance to reconnect Mexican artists with their Mexican-American counterparts, establishing bridges of expression and collaboration. It was genuinely a delight, not only to share the space but to build meaningful friendships.

I am always deeply grateful to them, and I greatly admire the work of Coka Treviño in consistently creating projects that foster growth in our communities and showcase diverse aspects of the Latin American art community in both the United States and Mexico, as well as amplifying the voices of women and minorities.

“East Austin Studio Tour” - The Projecto Collective 2016 & 2017

In 2016 and 2017, I had my first opportunities to exhibit in the United States. While I had previously exhibited in Europe and Mexico, this marked my debut in American territory. Thanks to art promoter Coka Treviño, I was able to showcase my sculptures to the Austin, Texas, community at the East and West Studio Tours—events that bring the entire city together to explore both local and international art. These exhibitions provided me with greater international visibility, and I was fortunate to form genuine friendships and connect with esteemed colleagues in the art world. I am deeply grateful to Coka and The Projecto for making this experience possible.

“Pan’s Realm” Art Show

The Pans Real exhibition was perhaps the most challenging and demanding of my career. With no budget and limited support for exhibitions at my university, it took tremendous persistence, knocking on countless doors, facing numerous rejections, gathering materials from nearby forests, and seeking sponsorships. Despite the exhaustive work and the skepticism from family, colleagues, and the university itself, I finally secured a space in the old library at Tec.

This exhibition became a reality thanks to the unwavering support of my father, Delia Leal Casas, and dedicated classmates like Irma Hernández, as well as students from the Visual Arts Faculty at UANL. Together, we brought to life a series of murals and sculptures, all created on-site. This experience demanded every bit of my energy and resolve, but it stands as one of my proudest achievements, marking my entry into Monterrey’s art scene.rings me great joy to remember this experience.

Tec de Monterrey, Monterrey, Nuevo León, 2014.

“Death’s Shrine” Art Show

During my time as a student at the University of Florence, I began exhibiting my work. The opportunity to display my pieces in a Florentine castle, Palazzo Guelfa, arose when the Italo-Mexican community invited me to exhibit in November, as part of the Mexican Consulate in Florence's efforts to highlight the Italo-Mexican community in the city. Thanks to this invitation, I presented sculptures with narratives connected to the underworld. This exhibition marked a turning point in my journey as it marked my professional debut and opened the door to the long career I now cherish—a path that has become central to my existence. I will never forget that Florence was my artistic baptism, the place where I first dreamed of becoming an artist, the gateway that gave me the drive to be the artist I am today.

Ti chiamo, Italia! Mi manca tantissimo essere a Firenze, la terra per sognare e vivere.
